About the author: Edward Goodbird was born in 1870 and was the son of Buffalo Bird Woman. He was a successful rancher and the first Indian Christian minister on the Hidatsa reservation. Goodbird's life was marked by a significant conflict between his traditional Hidatsa culture and his adopted Christian faith.
